If you are running or starting a business in the
Midcoast area, you may want to inspect this prime
central downtown location. We open our front doors to the
middle of Rockland's Main Street (U.S. Route One). The back
doors open to a free municipal parking lot. The top two floors
get a glimpse of Penobscot Bay.
This unique building is a historic landmark in the very center of
downtown Rockland. The "Custom House Block" changed hands in
1998 and has been continually upgraded ever since then. In addition,
this elegant 15,000 sq. ft. historic financial center has been steadily
brought up to modern safety standards including the installation of over
200 fire sprinkler heads and a state of the art smoke detection and
alarm system that is monitored by a security company 24/7.
Massive iron castings, rather than wood, trim the
face of this Italianate landmark. In 1999, 150 years of
different colored paints were removed from those
castings to reveal the intricate detail that had been lost
long ago. The 75-foot by 50-foot, three story (formerly
four story) brick building includes eight walk-in vaults as
evidence of its banking heritage (cash was the only
option back then).
Businesses have prospered here since the 1850's,
including the operation of two competing banks and a dance hall and
drinking emporium on the third floor that left behind Victorian
wallpaper, a maple dance floor and a long silent grand piano.
Do you like historic buildings with character...
but need high tech communications?
No problem ... Take your pick from Cable, DSL, WI FI, FiberOptics
and, of course, plain old telephone lines are still available
If your plans include increasing your exposure and
presence in the Mid-Coast area, it would be difficult to find a
more interesting building, or a better location to run your
business, offer your professional services, sell your merchandise,
start your classes, open your gallery or simply find a quiet space
to use your imagination.
