At the edge of Seal Harbor there is a Waterfront Cottage in a small fishing village on Spruce Head Island connected by car bridge to Mid Coast Maine |
If you are looking for a waterfront cottage just 45 feet from Seal Harbor, with a magnificent southern exposure that includes a busy fishing harbor, the open Atlantic Ocean and numerous protective islands then perhaps you should consider this cottage |
You could just quietly sit, relax and watch an ever-changing stream of fishing boats, sunrises, lobster boats, coastal windjammers,
sunsets, sailing boats, moonrises, kayaks, seals and seabirds, all from
a comfortable chair by a window. |
Or... you should really get outside and experience the coast of Maine in person. There are plenty of places to go and
things to do. If just looking at one of the world's best coastlines isn't enough,
then bring a boat or two of your own and take advantage our strategic location
at the gateway to the thousands of islands of Maine. The launching facilities
of Spruce Head Marine are less than one mile back down the road. Or...
you could always inquire about a private charter on Sea Fox... |
If you like lobsters… take comfort in the fact that there will probably be several hundred-thousand pounds
of them not far from your front yard. There are lobster traps set in the water
just in front of the cottage and a stones throw around the corner of the harbor
is a lobster buying station where the lobstermen bring their boats each day
to sell their catch. Bon Appetit! |

SPRUCY is a two bedroom, classic Maine shorefront cottage. It has recently been rebuilt and
renovated. It is located about 45 feet from the edge of a fishing harbor and
bay where there is always plenty to see. |
The new waterfront kitchen, dining and living area has been completely redone along with tearing out and rebuilding the bedrooms and
bathroom. All surfaces, systems and utilities have been replaced and upgraded,
including granite countertops, new cabinetry and all new plumbing fixtures. While
upgrading we have been very careful to preserve the old time feeling of a
simple coastal cottage. |
If the Summer Heat gets you down, then try our natural air conditioning which occurs when you put an island close enough to the mainland to be conveniently
connected by a bridge but still far enough away to able to take advantage
of the moderating temperatures of the ocean. Nature is kind enough to provide
cool breezes in the summer and warmer temperatures in the winter. If you have
a temperature sensor in your car, you will be pleasantly surprised to see it
drop by about 10 degrees as you drive over the island bridge. The wonderful part
is that this phenomenon reverses during the cold seasons, and combined with
our new heating system, Sprucy is no longer just a spring, summer and fall destination. |
In order to insure that everyone is comfortable, we rent to a maximum of 4 people at a time. There are two bedrooms. One is small
and the other is smaller. The small bedroom offers a queen bed, the smaller bedroom
offers a full size bed. There is also the option of a queen sleeper couch
in the living room near the huge old granite and brick fireplace. |
Outside at the waters edge, in front of the windows, we have built a very primitive barbecue pit from the granite
that protects the shoreline. It makes a great place for a clambake or just
roasting marshmallows. Or you can fire up our Weber charcoal grill.
|
The coast of Maine is a treasure throughout the year but our particular island, and perfect southern exposure,
provides some of the best of our coastline and expands our season dramatically.
Anyone interested in busy fishing harbors and their off lying islands will
be at home here. Sprucy is strategically located, at the gateway to the hundreds
of islands of the Muscle Ridge Channel and the Penobscot Bay. |
It is a perfect location for explorers, hikers, boaters, kayakers, sailors or armchair captains. If
you ever tire of the harbors, inlets, bays, beaches and islands, we are always
within 10 miles or so of, Tenants Harbor, Port Clyde, Owls Head, Rockland, Thomaston,
Rockport and Camden, to name a few of our closest neighbors. |
SPRUCY is about 60 miles east north east of Portland, Maine, about 7 miles south of Rockland,
Maine and about 45 feet north of Seal Harbor. As the chart and photographs
show, we are surrounded by islands, coves, bays and the open ocean. |

After we take your email or phone reservation, we will hold your scheduled week(s) for no more than five calendar days while waiting for your check to arrive. Please also Remember… Sorry, but there is no washing machine at our cottage because of our ample, but not
endless, supply of water. Many of the nearby wells on this island have been
infiltrated by the surrounding saltwater, so we buried a 1700 gallon, FDA approved,
water tank in the side yard and have city water trucked in if mother nature
does not provide enought rainwater. You will have plenty of water for hot
showers and all other uses providing that you use our resources responsibly.
Legally, we must insist that you do not drink our tap water even though it is
chlorinated and charcoal filtered. . You will find a sealed gallon of drinking
water in the refrigerator upon your arrival. After that you can select your own
favorite brand from nearby stores. Please also remember that linens are not supplied.
You must bring your own favorite linens including towels, washcloths, full
size and queen size sheets, and pillowcases. We supply pillows, blankets and
spreads. There are a number of Laundromats within a 15 to 20 minute drive.
However, we do realize that some air travelers simply do not have room for linens. So, if we are given advanced notice, we will arrange for all linens for those guests for a nominal fee of $15 per person, per week. Please be sure to arrange for this in advance. |
"What if... our vacation plans change?" Sometimes plans do change, whether we like it or not. We have a simple cancellation policy. If any party cancels with MORE than sixty days notice, that party is liable for no more than a $20 per week cancellation fee. In other words, if your plans do change, and you are unable to keep your reservation, we will happily refund all but $20 of your reservation deposit per week under either of the following conditions: 1. If you give us at least 60 days notice prior to your scheduled arrival. Or.... 2. If you give us less than 60 days notice and we are able to successfully rebook the cottage for all of your reserved time period (rebooking for less than all of your time period will be pro rated). If you do not fall into either of the two cases above, and you cancel giving us less than 60 days notice, we promise to try diligently to rebook your week or weeks. However, there is a possibility that you will forfeit your entire rental fee if we are unable to re-book your reserved week(s). To try and help insure your satisfaction in case of a last minute cancellation we try to maintain a waiting list but you must understand that most people plan well in advance for summer vacation weekly rentals. We will guarantee that your week(s) will be available and you must guarantee that your week will be paid for. |

While staying at Sprucy, why not invite some lobsters over for dinner? |
Got a boat? Take full advantage of the spectacular cruising waters and nearby islands.
There are launching ramps in our area and trailer parking and moorings
available for rent. You will have to be careful of the 10 foot tides
and possibility of fog but the prudent mariner will find some of the best cruising
waters in the world. |
And, to try and satisfy all those who aren't happy unless they are simply swimming in
technology, we reluctantly succumbed to connectivity and got a fancy new
high speed DSL internet connection (wired and wireless) and a satellite dish
receiver that includes 9 HBO channels for the 27" TV and DVD player found in the
living room. |
Need to stay connected while on vacation? High speed internet now included. |
PS Google Earth puts 295 Island Road in the wrong location.
Sprucy is located at the tip of the arrow above. We are far enough from
Atwood's Lobsters to be peaceful and close enough to stroll to for wholesale
lobsters. |
