Located in mid-coast Maine, on the Hope - Appleton town line and accessed from Appleton, this land is about 5 miles from Route 17 and has frontage on the Appleton maintained town road.

There are two ways to buy long view property.   1.) Spend the vast sum of money and yearly property taxes required for waterfront land or  2.)  look for naturally terraced land with great views and steep terrain in front of  the home sites.  Oakbrook is a classic example of the second choice and is priced at a tiny fraction of the other kind of long view land.

If you are interested in the entire parcel then you may want to drive up to the part of the area with the best long views, so you'll have to arrange for someone to meet you to unlock the chain gate at Jones Hill Road.  If you wish to park in front of the gate and don't mind hiking up hill over one half mile,  please park in front of the second gate (where the road will be moved to) and where you will not block our private road or the town road. To get an accurate idea of the boundries of either parcel it will probably be easiest for you to schedule an initial visit. 
In fact, there are enough acres, and potential building sites, in this park like parcel, to create your own private home site and a private nature preserve and a wood lot and still leave you with enough extra land to help finance your retirement plan and maybe even a college fund or two.

Did we mention how quiet and peaceful it is?
Bring a picnic lunch if you like, and enjoy it at our picnic table with a view over Appleton Ridge and the surrounding area.     
In order to enhance your views,    it might be neccessary to selectively harvest enough red and white oak for the floors, furniture and cabinets of your new home and, eventually, enough firewood to warm your hearth.
Of course, for the same money,   you could always buy that nice old house that sits on almost one whole acre of land.

You know, the house designed and built with insulation and heating details that worked well when heating oil was less than a dollar a gallon.

Exceptionally beautiful natural features  include several musical brooks and a wide variety of forest cover types with red and white oak trees predominating.   This very healthy hardwood forest could also supply many of your building materials as well as all your firewood needs.  The 5 acre lot includes the brook above, and another brook.
